For as long as I can remember, I avoided being in the kitchen. I was a teacher and a martial artist, and my skill set did not fall into the culinary realm. But, for some reason, I decided to make myself a 33rd birthday cake - a running shoe, since I was training for a half marathon. I enjoyed the experience and was pleased with the result. Shortly after my birthday, my dear friends announced their engagement and their plans to be married in an intimate ceremony at City Hall. Thinking it would be a small gathering, I offered to make them a wedding cake. I was quite surprised when they called to say they were expecting about 125 people at their reception and were excited for me to make their cake! I eagerly rose to the challenge and poured my heart into hours of research in attempt to learn the best techniques for the job. I wanted nothing more than to surprise them with the perfect cake. From that day on, I was hooked. With each subsequent cake I designed, a passion blossomed.
I believe you must bring your whole self to the table if you want to thrive. That includes your unique gifts, personality, and most importantly, your heart. I apply this philosophy to all aspects of my life - teaching, parenting, marital arts and fitness, and now as a baker and chocolatier. I love the opportunity and the challenge of bringing to fruition the ideal cake to match each client’s vision. I truly enjoy learning and applying new techniques and practices. There is certainly some trial and error as I discover which methods translate into best outcomes and what recipes and flavor combinations will delight the senses. But, I am committed to bringing you the very best of what I am living and learning.
Food is such a personal choice that has the power to elicit vivid memories in all of us. My goal is to produce high quality goods that will evoke delicious memories for you.
After all, life is short. Let’s make it sweet!
